Tax Intern

Overview:

You will be working alongside our team of tax preparers to complete basic tax data entry, document analysis, and document organization during tax season (January-April).

Responsibilities:
Your focus:
• Ensuring tax documentation is organized and data is accurately entered in our tax preparation software


Daily tasks: 
• Organizing client files
• Entering basic tax information in our tax preparation software
• Analyzing tax documents to discern relevant information
• Preparing spreadsheets to organize data
• Completing general office duties as required

Qualifications:
• EXCELLENT interpersonal skills (previous customer service experience helpful)
• Both a self-starter and a team player
• Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills 
• Obsessive attention to detail
• Basic ability to complete office duties including filing, printing, scanning, etc.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications (specifically Excel)
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor, even in our busy season
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university 
• Preferably Senior standing and majoring in Business Administration (Accounting, Finance)

Hours will be between 15 and 20 hours per week. Availability Monday through Friday 8 am to 6:30 pm and some Saturdays/Sundays 12 pm to 5 pm hours available. We will work around class schedules

Part-Time CPA

You will be working year-round with our team of tax preparers and accountants to prepare all types of tax returns along with completing accounting tasks for our business clients.

Responsibilities:

Your focus:

  • Adhering to our defined business processes
  • Providing excellent, knowledgeable customer service to our clients

Daily tasks:

  • Organizing client files and information
  • Analyzing tax and accounting documents to discern relevant information
  • Preparing & assisting in preparation of simple to complex federal and state individual, corporate, partnership, trust, non-profit, sales, and payroll tax returns
  • Completing monthly and quarterly bookkeeping tasks to facilitate preparation of client financials
  • Conducting research to ensure compliance with tax and accounting regulations
  • Consulting with supervisors and other team members on complex tax and accounting matters
  • Assisting in quality assurance processes
  • Completing general office duties as required

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of tax preparation experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting
  • Must be a CA licensed CPA

Part-time, flexible, year-round hours are available. 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday and some weekends during tax season.  Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Staff Accountant

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

SAN MARCOS, CA

Job Description:

The Staff Accountant will be focused on performing accounting tasks for our clients by compiling financial statements from client provided data, preparing all relevant tax returns, and providing data analysis of financial results based on financial statement and tax return outcomes.  Critical to this role is effective client communication and relationship building.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Enter monthly transactions and journal entries, including the investigation, verification of support, and reconciliation of accounts
  • Analyze all general ledger transactions for unusual variances, prepare reclassifications, and make necessary journal entries to ensure accounts are reconciled and the financial statements are fairly stated
  • Prepare Monthly Financial Statements Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, and Statement of Cash Flows
  • Support clients by providing financial statement analysis and budget versus actual variance reports
  • Provide QuickBooks user support for clients with in-house accounting
  • Assist clients in updating and refining accounting policies and procedures to improve their internal controls and financial statement reliability and usefulness
  • Prepare third party reporting, including sales & use tax and property tax returns
  • Proactively work with clients and staff to ensure smooth, enjoyable tax season
  • Communicate with clients to ensure complete set of documents/data to prepare accurate, defendable returns
  • Prepare and review federal, multi-state tax returns for businesses, individuals, trust, and estates
  • Review associates’ accounting and tax work, and provide constructive review points
  • Train and mentor interns
  • Special projects as needed. May be involved in our corporate management by assisting corporate officers

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Approximately two years of accounting experience in either public accounting or private industry
  • Candidates with tax experience preferred
  • CPA candidate preferred
  • Solid foundation and understanding of accounting
  • Ability to understand complicated topics, apply critical thinking and judgment, and make informed recommendations, all in a fast-paced environment
  • Be consistently accurate, organized, and able to prioritize and meet deadlines for multiple engagements
  • Knowledge in QuickBooks, both online and desktop versions, and in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Work independently with a strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, interest in learning new industries and mastering new skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work extended hours as required
  • Have the desire to take on critical tasks to help grow the firm
